Synopsis
Oggy and the cockroaches, as the name suggests is the story of Oggy -a fat, lazy blue cat and the three pesky cockroaches. Oggy is very tender and friendly where the cockroaches are like 3 little demons. They are named Joey, Dee Dee and Marky, taken from the name of the famous punk group Ramones' members. They never stop teasing or pinching Oggy. Hijacking the foods from Oggy's fridge, placing bombs at oggy's bed, scaring Oggy now- and then are very common.
This cartoon is based on slapstick humor, chases, collisions, and crude practical jokes are common in every episodes. Sometimes the level of extremities even rise up more than normal level. They produce broad humor, absurd situations, and vigorous, often violent action. It's common that those little cockroaches throws beds, tv sets or even buses or submarines sometimes. Younger viewers like them very much though. The laughs of those pesky roaches are also enjoyable.
The series chronicles the life of a blue cat, living in a huge house and is constantly annoyed by a gang of three cockroaches. The characters have a language peculiar: they never pronounce words and are understood by gestures and onomatopoeia.
In this series, food is often composed of chickens. These chickens symbolize food, like many other parts of this cartoon, or other winks more or less discrete refer to classics such as Tom & Jerry and other series from Warner Bros. (Looney Tunes).
Oggy and the Cockroaches are in many respects a modern equivalent of his famous predecessors. We note the duration of episodes, confrontation recurring characters suddenly traps or sticks of dynamite, turning often against the sender, products manufactured by the brand ACME, style gags, the trio cat - dog cockroaches recalls the trio cat-dog-canary Tweety and Sylvester.
Some other recurring details: television programs, recordings and books handled by Oggy, often a celebrity (South American?) In effigy. When visiting the toilet, the cat often starts reading the magazine WC Mag.
The producer and creative team of this cartoon are the same as for the cartoon The Space Goofs. In episode 107 of the first season titled Beautiful Doll, the filmmakers make a nod to that other series. Indeed, the model in which Oggy ride her doll is a perfect replica of the house where housed the aliens. It is reproduced in the same scene outside the city to the furniture.
